Health workers learn more about STD, HIV, AIDS in the community

Christmas dance contest highlight culmination

SAN FERNANDO, Cebu (Dec. 20 2019)Some 152 barangay health workers (BHW) in San Fernando learned more and appreciated further health issues associated with improper sexual behavior in the community.

They gathered yesterday for their fourth quarter health seminar that served as their culmination activity for the year at the multi-purpose recreation center of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI).

TCPI company physician Dr. Ildebrando Estella conducted the seminar “Awareness of STD, HIV, AIDS in the Community” that provided the participant with resource materials the TCPI medical team prepared.

STD stands for sexually-transmitted disease, HIV for human immuno-deficiency virus that attacks cells that supposedly help the body fight infection, and AIDS for acquired immune-deficiency syndrome, the disease that results from untreated HIV.

Mayor Lakambini D. Reluya appreciated the assistance of TCPI to provide BHWs with health seminars every quarter, as she acknowledged the increase in reported cases of STD, HIV and AIDS in San Fernando.

She requested the company to cover other relevant health issues noted in the town, like mental health to help solve depression cases, teenage pregnancy and malnutrition.
