77 plant 6,230 seedlings around Taiheiyo complex

No less than 65 employees of the Taiheiyo Group and 12 barangay officials planted some 6,230 seedlings of good quality trees around the cement plant in San Fernando last June 30, 2012.

Each planted about 50 seedlings more than just the 32 young trees one managed to plant last November 2011 in the joint semi-annual activity of Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. (TCPI) and Solid Earth Development Corp. (SEDC).

They planted most of the seedlings prepared from the company’s nursery in barangay Magsico along the Luknay Creek beside the limestone quarry adjacent to the company's cement manufacturing facilities in Barangay South Poblacion.

These included 2,600 Aurey seedlings, about 1,400 in Mahogany species and at least 30 young Neemtree plants, disclosed Emylie B. Ortega, the lead organizer and SEDC senior manager for human resources and administration (HRA).

The Taiheiyo employees and officials from Barangay also planted 2,000 seedlings at Lantawan by the provincial road going uphill from the national highway at the north side of the complex, and 200 more within Sangat National High School.

Other than Aurey and Mahogany, they planted other species as Nangka, Santol and Lomboy, according to Michael A. Loguiber, a staff of ...

Among the 65 tree planters from the Taiheiyo group, 10 came from the Cebu head office, six from the operations department, five from the warehouse, three from HRA, and two from safety and the Office of Presidential Management.

Also, 16 survey aides and seven drivers and executive bodyguards added to the 16-man delegation from SEDC, with (name and position of Japanese executive/s) overseeing the activity while getting their hands dirty for Mother Earth.

Nursery personnel already dug holes for easier and faster planting, while on standby were First-aid kits and the TCPI Patrol car to ensure that any untoward incident will have been attended to right away.
