FIRST AID KITS. Community development officers Rolando T. Manalop (left) and Gines T. Boltron (right) turn over first aid supplies and medicines to Ilaya Elementary School in the hinterlands of San Fernando, Cebu through its head teacher Ursula O. Villaver (center).

Donation made in answer to survey results that they lack first aid kits, clinic facilities

TWELVE public schools in San Fernando, Cebu received replenishment supplies for their first aid kits. They also got additional medicines for common illnesses among their students during the last quarter of 2009.

Taiheiyo Cement Philippines, Inc. augmented the schools’ capability to apply first aid for students and school personnel through a recent donation with earth materials supplier Solid Earth Development Corporation. Both companies donated in July 2007 a complete first aid kit each to the same schools under the Education and School Support of their joint Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).

The donation was based on a survey that noted the lack of first aid supplies and clinic facilities among these schools. A follow through survey showed that the schools have practically used and consumed the supplies, and further noted that fever, hyperacidity, diarrhea were common illnesses among the children.

With the survey results, the SDMP management committee decided to add medicines for these illnesses as the program replenishes the previous donation and augment the para-medical capability of the schools.

San Fernando Central School in North Poblacion got four sets for having the highest population of elementary students, while the elementary schools of South Poblacion and Magsico got two sets each.

The rest in barangays Basak, Bugho, Cabatbatan, Ilaya, Panadtaran, Tabionan, Tañañas, Tinubdan and Tonggo got one each. The replenished first aid kit contains plastic strips (Band-Aid), gauze pads, elastic bandage, leukoplast plaster, micropore plaster, alcohol, betadine wound solution, cotton balls, skin ointment, burn ointment, Calmoseptine ointment, spirit of ammonia, eye drop solution, toothache drops, ophthalmic drops, hydrogen peroxide, and Efficascent oil.
